Set… then jet!

A bumpy start…

Landing in Madrid was half the adventure these last few weeks. After two failed take off attempts, a new plane, a new gate, a new crew and new seats (At least we can say thank you for the upgrade United!) we went wheels up around 4:30am on Sunday morning heading to our new home. Miraculously all our bags and storage bins managed to make to the aircraft and after nearly 24 hours of travel we touched down at Adolfo Suárez International with four luggage carts full of nearly everything we own at this point.

Now that we finally had made it, the goal was simple: to acclimate to the time zone, give the kids a taste of their new home (literally, they were begging for croquettes and jamon the moment we touched down!) and attempt to ease into our move abroad with a few weeks enjoying some accrued vacation in between the transcontinental flight and actual real life.

Madrid itself was a lovely welcoming host, and after playing complete tourist for a few days around the capital taking in the sights (Plaza Mayor, Real Madrid Palace, Retiro Park) we grabbed the few bags we withheld from a long term storage unit and heading back to MAD to travel and perhaps cover up our true anxieties about what we had just done. If anything would help, it had to be exotic foods, historic ruins and crystal blue waters, right?

First stop… Malta!
